Sony’s exclusivity deal with Rocket League developer Psyonix is in its final days, and as a result, there’s finally a version of car-soccer (or car-futbol) coming for XBox players. The news was confirmed at the 2015 Game Awards last night.
BUT…..there’s a wrinkle.
The Playstation 4 and PC versions of Rocket League can play against each other. When you open a match in the game, you’re playing against both PC gamers and PS4 owners. It turns out the XBox version of Rocket League can’t allow this. Responding to angry tweets upon the release of this news, Rocket League’s official Twitter account stated “The Xbox platform doesn’t allow for crossplay matchmaking between other systems as a general practice across all titles.”
Well….nearly all titles. The XBox One has permitted cross-platform communication before, BUT only with games that communicate exclusively between the XBox and Windows PC, which Microsoft also owns. Hmm, wonder why.
To all XBox owners, don’t feel bad — you’ve got perks of your own. That backwards compatibility via disc is pretty sweet, and Sony still doesn’t feel like bending on that.
