Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered Hits Modern Systems In November

Do you feel the need — the Need For Speed? What’s been added to the remastered edition of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit?

Criterion Games, most famous for the Burnout series (but also the creators behind this game), are releasing a revamped version for consoles and PC this holiday season. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered contains not only visual improvements on all systems (even the Switch) but new features like cross-platform multiplayer.

The original Hot Pursuit was a big hit mainly for its multiplayer mode, and Criterion knew they would have to up their game in a remastered version. “The opportunity for cross-play was, like, ‘Oh man, we have to do that,’” creative director Chris Roberts said to Polygon in an interview. “You know, ‘We need to get this on as many formats as we can, get everybody connected and battling it out.’”

As you might expect, the Remastered version of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit will contain all the DLC content released ten years ago, but it’s not just a menu dump…the extra material has now been added to the main story and scattered throughout. The Campaign Mode is now several hours longer, with additional events for both the cop and the racer.

As we said, every version of NfS Hot Pursuit will run better than the original. The Switch version runs at 30 FPS in both docked and undocked mode, and 1080p docked (the built-in screen can’t go higher than 720 anyway). The PS4 and XBox One versions will also run at those specs, though if you have a PS4 Pro or a XBox One X you can get it going at 4K resolution (30 FPS) or 60 FPS (1080p resolution). You decide what’s more important. A good PC will have no problem running 4K 60 FPS.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered will be out for Playstation 4, XBox One and PC November 6, followed by the Switch release one week later.
