What’s going to be the next racing game published by Square-Enix? It’s MXGP Pro, a new motocross racer from developer Milestone….will it be the most realistic motocross racer ever?
That’s the goal Square and Milestone are working toward. They say their new “mechanical approach” to the game will result in hyper-accurate physics, realistic rider movements, and ultra-customizable bikes based on real values and metrics.
“This year we have been able to completely redefine the physics and the entire gameplay experience of MXGP,” said Luca Simonotti, Lead Designer at Milestone. “We started from the analysis of suspension, we compared the pressure with fork extensions as well as single shock-absorbers using the same values of official MXGP athletes’ bikes; the same process has been done with the ECU mapping.”
Milestone went far enough to enlist the guidance of professional motocross racers Tim Gajser, Tony Cairoli, and Gautier Paulin. Gajser gave feedback on “whipping, scrubbing, and passing through whoops sections.” Cairoli refined the Starting Grid and provided feedback for the braking system, and Paulin provided advice on how sharp corners are handled at top speed in real life.
“Thanks to the exclusive partnership with official MXGP riders,” says Simonotti, “we have been able to receive qualitative feedbacks on areas of improvements towards the whole development process. It has been a unique experience for us to be on track with them and we are proud of the results achieved.”
We’ll be able to play those results for ourselves when MXGP Pro arrives this summer for Playstation 4, XBox One and PC.
