Rocket League has had a few updates and add-ons since its introduction and subsequent popularity explosion, but all of those updates have barely changed the formula. Developer Psyonix is aware they can’t push the exact same game forever; the previous round of additions altered the ball in play and the gravity; now they’re starting to experiment with altering the court.
“Wasteland” is the name of the latest arena, and unlike the others, this one is BIIIIIG. It’s intended to resemble the apocalyptic craggy landscape of a Mad Max movie, because as it turns out, the upcoming DLC, “Chaos Run,” that releases with it runs along that same theme.
“Chaos Run” will sell for four dollars and include all this:
- 2 New Battle-Cars, Ripper and Grog
- 12 New Decals (six for each new Battle-Car)
- 2 New Paint Types (Camo and Sun-Damaged)
- 2 New Wheels (Ripper and Grog)
- 2 New Rocket Trails (Sandstorm, Nuts and Bolts)
- 3 New Toppers (Boombox, Cow Skull, Mohawk)
- 3 New Antennas (Bomb Pole, Radioactive, Retro Ball – Wasteland)
- 5 New Trophies
The Wasteland arena, however, will be free. It’s razors and blades — Psyonix knows you can’t play on an arena like this without the proper accessories. As far as exotic arenas go, this is just the beginning. “It’s the first of many ‘unusual’ arena designs that we plan to introduce in the future, and they’re only going to get more interesting from here,” Psyonix says.
“Chaos Run” and the Wasteland arena will be coming to Playstation 4 and PC in early December. Have a video:
