New Forza 6 Ad Drives You Through Racing Game History
Microsoft’s new ad promoting Forza 6 does so in a clever manner: the car depicted on the game’s packaging, the 2017 Ford GT, drives through various other racers from video game history.
Gran Trak 10 (1974), Pole Position (1982), RC Pro Am (1987), Chase HQ (1988), and Ridge Racer (1993) are all represented. The only racer missing from the recreation montage is Gran Turismo, being a Sony product, natch.
Microsoft explained how the ad was made, and how they got the Ford GT inside all those games. “To place the photorealistic car inside the pixelated game worlds, Xbox photographed a real-life, multimillion dollar prototype of the Ford GT that was suspended within a motion-controlled hydraulic rig. Tracking markers were used in-camera so that shots of the real car fit perfectly into the simulated environment of the earlier generation games.”
The ad will make its debut during the Formula One Italian Grand Prix this weekend (this is a global launch, so any network that is airing the Italian Grand Prix in any country you can legally sell XBoxes in will have this ad).
