It’s becoming fashionable for high-profile video games to run their beta tests in public these days, but until now, it’s mostly been the domain of AAA multiplayer first-person shooters. Other genres are getting the hang of it, though, and last weekend EA announced that one of their racing games would hold a public beta — Need For Speed.
If you’ve been following the development of Need For Speed, you know how badly it needs to be tested. It’s going to be sporting several features that have spelled trouble for other games in the past, like required internet connectivity, as well as features that have NEVER been tested in public, like its touted integration of multiplayer into a fixed storyline. They’ve gotta hold a beta to make sure this stuff even works!
If you want to get on the beta list, there’s no purchase necessary….just go to this page and enter your name and info. Not everyone who signs up may be chosen, but you can’t get in if you’re not on the list to begin with. You’ve got ten days — the list closes on September 25.
The information EA gave out implies the beta will be a console exclusive….Playstation 4 and XBox One were mentioned as participants, but not the PC.
