Mario Kart 8 Hack May Never Make it to The Wild

on

Two brothers, who go by the online handles Chadderz and Bean, have been pumping out videos like the ones you see above in which the Mario Kart 8 racers do seemingly possible things such as defy gravity and race in space. In fact, they are impossible, unless you hack the game as Chadderz and Bean have done.

The two recently gave a long interview to Kotaku Australia that’s well worth a read. The upshot is that their hack was based on exploiting a vulnerability in old firmware that’s already been patched, and that they don’t plan on releasing their hack to the public. At least, not until someone else takes the plunge and releases a Wii U exploit, then they might as well.

Chadderz and Bean also hacked the Wii version of Mario Kart, and seeing that game ruined by online cheating seems to be the factor that has given them pause about the more recent work.

“We don’t want that to happen again,” Chadderz said.

So for now, at least, the method behind the hack is being kept secret because there’s no way to guarantee it will be used responsibly.

“The exploit will never leave this house,” Chadderz said.
