Last May Aquiris Game Studio published their new racer, Horizon Chase Turbo, on PS4 and PC. We could tell you about the game, but why not play it yourself? It’s free now (kinda).
Horizon Chase Turbo utilizes a deliciously retro aesthetic, rendering the flat 2D look of 16-bit races in full 3D. Long roads with bright grassy sides tapered off by candy-colored bumpers are the rule of the day here. There are campaign, tournament and endurance modes, plenty of things to unlock, chiptune-styled music and even a split-screen multiplayer mode (remember those?)
“We created Horizon Chase Turbo to be the racing game we wanted to play, hitting the sweet spot between true-to-life simulators and chaotic, explosive kart racers,” said Aquiris Studio Game Designer, Felipe Dal Molin. “With Horizon Chase Turbo, we want players to feel the nostalgic tension of the simple tug-of-war of a tight turn; where players are run off-road for a split second only to return to intense high-speed action as they overtake and battle against friends playing together on the couch or via the online ghost mode.”
- Thrilling arcade racing game, inspired by Outrun, Top Gear, Lotus Turbo Challenge, and others.
- Modern high-quality graphics and UI.
- Amazing old-style split-screen multiplayer up to 4 players.
- Music by Barry Leitch, Sound Designer in 90s racing classics such as Top Gear and Lotus Turbo Challenge, among others.
- Tons of content: 12 Cups, 48 Cities, 109 tracks, 31 Unlockable Cars and 12 Upgrades.
- Challenge your friends in an Online Competitive Ghost Mode.
- Make History by adding your name among Friends’ and Global Leaderboards
And like we said, there’s a demo out today for both systems. It contains eight of the circuits, three of the cars, two of the game modes and fully functional split-screen. Aquiris says they stuffed 30 minutes’ worth of gameplay here, which is a lot for a racer.
Enjoy the demo on your machine of choice, and if you like it, check out Horizon Chase Turbo on Playstation 4 and PC. For the PC version, there will be a 30$ Steam sale until October 23.
