What Does GTA’s Publisher Think Of The Nintendo NX?
The odds of the next GTA appearing on a Nintendo console aren’t great, unless their target demographic completely embraces the NX as their gaming platform of choice within the next few years. Rockstar did attempt to market a full-fledged GTA game on the Nintendo DS, called Chinatown Wars, not too long ago — and it was ignored.
But how does Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, feel about the future? Strauss Zelnick, T2’s CEO, has seen the NX with his own eyes like most other big developers have. He didn’t confirm the rumors about a console/handheld hybrid, but he did indicate he feels “enthusiastic” about the machine’s potential.
“We never want to count Nintendo out….So we feel pretty enthusiastic actually. They’re really thoughtful, they come to market with something they really think is going to work, more often than not it really works, it blows up and then eventually they let it decline and they move on to the next thing. They don’t mind having time in between.”
One item that GTA is confirmed to not be appearing on for quite some time is any VR device. Zelnick expressed reservations about developing software for technology so young.
“You don’t get paid for being the first to market, you don’t sell more units. The installed base is too small.”
