Grand Theft Auto V Hits Dinosaur Numbers
65 million years ago, monstrous lizards roamed the earth. Today, Grand Theft Auto V cleared 65 million copies. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick announced his company’s latest benchmark today during an investor call for Take-Two’s 2016 fiscal year.
When we last heard Zelnick brag, it was February and GTA V had cleared 60 million copies, which means it sold an additional 5 million within the last three months. And at this point last year, there were 52 million copies of GTA V in the wild, which means 13 million were sold in just that 12-month period alone.
Despite being years old at this point, GTA V consistently ranks in the Top Ten charts for video game sales, which makes you wonder how many people could possibly not own it yet. I guess new babies are born every day, and new humans come of age to play GTA on a regular basis, but still.
