Forza Horizon 2 will not feature the controversial “token” micro-transaction system from Forza 5. At least not at launch.
Creative Director Ralph Fulton said there will be no tokens, they way to buy cars with real-world currency in the Forza series, in the game when it is released.
“The approach we’ve taken is that we’ve designed our game at Playground Games from the ground up to be fair, to be fun, to be rewarding,” Fulton said in an interview at Digital Spy.
“That’s incredibly important to us. For that reason, we will launch in September without tokens.”
In addition to unlocking cars through in-game progression, there’s will be a chance to get them early in the game through a random chance slot machine minigame.
“When you do level up, we give you a shot at what we call ‘The Horizon Wheel Spin’,” Fulton said.
“Every time you level up we’ve got this game of chance, and for the lucky guys, they could be a getting a Bugatti Veyron after playing the game for 30 minutes.”
Forza Horizon 2 will launch Sept. 30 for the Xbox One and Xbox 360.
