What was announced during the Game Awards last night that took two celebrities to unveil? It was a new racing game based on the Fast & Furious franchise, and it’s coming to current-gen consoles next May.
It was Michelle Rodriguez that made a surprise appearance on the stage during the later half of the awards ceremony, and after a minute of speech, she passed the buck to someone else to introduce the game they had come to promote. Vin Diesel appeared in all his muscular glory to show off the first trailer for Fast & Furious Crossroads. Diesel and Rodriguez will both be lending their voices to their characters in the game, and so will Tyrese Gibson, who couldn’t be there that evening.
Fast & Furious Crossroads also stars Sonequa Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery, The Walking Dead) and Asia Kate Dillon (Billions, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum). Details are light as far as gameplay is concerned, but we’re promised both single-player and multiplayer modes, the latter of which will be revealed in better detail later on. I think we can also expect this one to be an arcade-style experience (it’d be a waste to marry this over-the-top racing franchise to something like a realistic sim).
Slightly Mad Studios, whom you know from the Project CARS series, is currently developing this one. The studio was recently acquired by publisher Codemasters. Look for Fast & Furious Crossroads in May of 2020 on Playstation 4, XBox One and PC.
