Story isn’t something racing games are well-known for. Nor is story an expected or demanded element for a racer. The point of this type of game is to get in a car and speed along as fast as possible — how we get to that scenario is unimportant. The folks behind the upcoming Desert Child, however, have come up with something interesting enough to grab our attention on story alone.
You play as a hoverbike racer in the future. You’re very good at what you do, but you’re also flat broke. Your dream is to compete in the Grand Prix on Mars, but that takes lots of funding. Your quest: work yourself up from your underdog status by taking on race-related jobs that utilize your skills. Earn the money and fame to get to Mars and realize your dream! Desert Child is like the hoverbike version of Rocky.
