“Carmageddon”….there’s a brand name I haven’t heard in a while. For those who weren’t around, it was an average car racer/combat game where you drove around city ruins and ran over either zombies or actual people depending on the platform and what it allowed. Like a lot of extreme entertainment from twenty years ago, it moved copies purely on shock reputation and little more. But it did have its fanbase, and it’s a fanbase that would pay up front to see it again.
In 2012 a Kickstarter campaign proposed resuscitating the extremely 90’s brand for at least one more round of car-nage (see what I did there) and received more than they asked for — $625,000 in total. Of course they then had $3.5 million more to work with, because the game — which is very close to completion — has some nice-looking screenshots.
Founders of the game have had versions of it to play with since March of last year, as Carmageddon: Reincarnation was placed on Steam Early Access over a year ago. But now it’s very close to completion and will be sold on Steam For The Rest Of Us, starting late next month.
After Carmageddon: Reincarnation makes its PC debut, there are plans to make the game available on Playstation 4 and XBox One, though exact release dates, or general ones, have not been revealed.
